With the Clarts making it back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, isthe 29 year old star on free a good business?
What’s new with Nathan Redmond in regards to the Burnley transfer rumors?
Burnley is attempting to sign the former Southampton player during the summer transfer window, according to the Turkish publication Hurriyet (via Sport Witness).
The winger played for Besiktas in Istanbul last season, but he will leave as a free agent this summer against the club’s desires.
In just 25 league appearances, he has had a productive spell in the Turkish capital, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists.
This performance prompted the club to extend his contract, which would have paid him €1.5 million (£1.3 million) annually. However, he declined the offer, telling the club that he expected the sum to be increased to €2 million (£1.7 million), according to his agent.
This stand-off with the club has led to the interest of the Lancashire club and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who now know the financial package required to land their man.
What may Burnley expect from Nathan Redmond?
First of all, it seems like a terrific deal for a freshly promoted team to sign Redmond, a seasoned professional with Premier League experience, on the free agent market for only £1.7 million in salaries.
Since his debut in the 2013–14 season, the former Birmingham City dynamo has played 264 times in England’s top division and has contributed to 54 goals, a good rate of about one per 4.8 games.
Having a player with Redmond’s expertise would not be a bad thing for a squad whose main objective should be to avoid the drop next year, even though these figures won’t exactly set the league ablaze.

The winger, who was born in the Midlands, would also serve as something of a throwback for the Clarets supporters, a no-nonsense, hard-working wide man who used to be associated with the team.
His previous manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl, waxed poetic about this aspect of his game following a particularly challenging FA Cup match, saying:
“What he did in this game was working against, ball defending his own box and clearing the ball – that is a new Nathan Redmond.”It was not cool for him.
It was really hard work and that is what I want to see from him, that he shows that he is also able to work hard and to stay focused until the end of a game.”His numbers also bare out this hard-working side of the 5 foot 8 ace, who has also previously been hailed as an “unlikely leader” by journalist Tom Leach.
According to FBref, in his final five seasons in England, he averaged at least 1.39 tackles per 90.It’s the same story for blocks, with the 29-year-old averaging 1.2 per 90 during his final five seasons with Southampton.
With his improved work rate and increased attacking output from his time in Turkey, the signing of the former Southampton man could prove to be very shrewd business from Burnley and give them a little bit of that old Sean Dyche charm again.
