Burnley are struggling to match Millwall’s valuation for Zian Flemming

Zian Flemming of Millwall is in high demand this summer as a result of his very good debut season in England in 2022–

2023.

Millwall finally signed him from Fortuna Sittard last summer after having an offer for his services rejected in January. They

paid a club record £1.7 million after he scored 24 goals in the Eredivisie over a two-year span.

Even though Flemming had high expectations, it’s possible that some people didn’t anticipate him to have such a significant

influence when he scored 15 goals for the Lions last season, some of which were incredible long-range shots.

The Dutchman’s goals appeared to be enough to guarantee Millwall a berth in the Championship play-offs, but that was not

to be the case as they stumbled on the final day of the previous season and ultimately finished in eighth place.

Championship champions Burnley, who have made at least two reported offers to Millwall before the weekend, are one club

that is particularly interested in signing Flemming this summer.

What has changed in Burnley’s search for Zian Flemming?

Burnley’s efforts to attract Flemming to Turf Moor are obviously not going away.

According to Rich Cawley of the South London Press, the Clarets have had FOUR bids for the 24-year-old rejected so far.

Millwall obviously does not want to lose the talented Dutchman this summer after only one season at the club.

One of the early offers was reportedly only £6.9 million for Flemming, which is far less than the club’s estimated value.

And they reportedly want to sell for more than their previous record deal, which involved the transfer of George Saville to

Middlesbrough in 2019 and the South Bermondsey club’s £8 million cost.

It’s more likely that the Lions will want towards the £15 million mark for Flemming due to his outstanding debut season in

England – whether Burnley end up paying that though remains to be seen.

What is Zian Flemming’s current situation at Millwall?

When signing for the Lions last summer, Flemming penned a four year contract at The Den, meaning he is still on a deal

there for another three years.

There is also no release clause in Flemming’s contract, meaning that Burnley will have to pay a big price if they are desperate

to land the Dutchman this summer.

The speculation is clearly not affecting Flemming however as he returned to pre-season training with Millwall in the last

week ahead of the 2023-24 season – whether he is still around before their August 5 start date though is another matter.

McNally also excelled with Coventry. He appeared in 22 league games for the Sky Blues, significantly contributing to their

success in advancing to the play-off final.

But Nixon has since disclosed on his paid Patreon website (via Football League World) that Coventry are interested in

bringing McNally back this summer, despite the fact that parent club Burnley don’t appear to favor that course of action.

Nixon also mentions that Millwall are interested in a potential McNally trade and that the Clarets may use McNally as

leverage to get Millwall to sell Zian Flemming after Vincent Kompany’s team had four bids for the Dutchman rejected this

summer.

McNally to Millwall

McNally showed with Coventry that he’s a defender who can more than cut it at Championship level, and he did so with a

team that reached the play-off final and that should make McNally even more attractive to Gary Rowett’s side.

And given the Flemming situation, McNally to The Den could be a very realistic move, but it could also mean that the Lions

have to part ways with their star man.

Millwall selling Flemming still seems unlikely, but if they could get McNally – potentially on a permanent deal – as part of

the move, it could work out well for all involved.
