Arnau Tenas, the goalie for Barcelona, is reportedly a target for Burnley.
What are the most recent transfers at Burnley?
Prior to their return to the Premier League, the Clarets have already poured the cash. Vincent Kompany acquired centre-
back Jordan Beyer from Borussia Monchengladbach and full-back Dara O’Shea from West Brom for a total of €22 million.
With numerous further rumors in the media, it appears that this is just the beginning of what could be a busy summer at
Turf Moor. Recently, according to Fabrizio Romano, Burnley allegedly offered Noah Sadiki of Anderlecht a signing offer.
The club is also considering a fresh bid for Millwall star Zian Flemming, while Tenas appears to be another new target.
One Spanish news source claims that Burnley is interested in recruiting Tenas and is well aware of his predicament. The 22-
year-old’s contract extension option with Barcelona has since expired, so should a new agreement not be reached, the goalie
may leave as a free agent.
Tenas reportedly meets the needs required by Kompany in goal due to his ‘good footwork’, something which is ‘very
attractive for a team that tries to take care of the ball and apply a style of play similar to that of Barcelona’. If a fresh Camp
Nou contract doesn’t come to light, then Burnley are very likely to make a proposal for the Spaniard.
Arnau Tenas, who is he?
Tenas has advanced through Barcelona’s academy and is now the B team’s captain. The Spain U21 international has 58
appearances for the B team and 22 clean sheets, but has yet to make his senior debut. Transfermarkt values him at a career-
high €2 million.
Tenas was dubbed the next Victor Valdes by former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique in 2021, while a supporter page for the
club once praised the goalkeeper as a “amazing young goalkeeper” with a lot of promise.
Kompany currently has Arijanet Muric and Bailey Peacock-Farrell as senior options to choose from ahead of the 2023/24
season, so it’ll be interesting to see if a move is made for Tenas, making this one to watch.
Man United: Moises Caicedo would be Ten Hag’s version of Rice
Last season, the Manchester United target made less progressive passes than Rice, but was dispossessed fewer times. That
said, as per FBref, they are noted as similar players, perhaps an ode to their position on the pitch and starring qualities
defensively.
Such traits would suit Ten Hag’s side, who aren’t in need of a midfielder who can make things happen going forward. After
all, they’ve already got that in the form of Bruno Fernandes.
What they need is a balanced player between Fernandes and Casemiro; a player who is safe on the ball, and quick to recover
the ball when without it. Given Caicedo’s 248 ball recoveries last season, this is a role that he could play.
Speaking about the quality of the Brighton man, Garth Crooks wrote in his BBC column, via Caught Offside, after the
Seagulls defeated Arsenal: “Arsenal wanted to buy Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and after this performance against the
Gunners I can see why.
“Following his encounter with Gabriel Martinelli you could see this is a player from the old school and he’s going places.
“They made two bids for the Ecuador international this season and it caused a terrible fuss. Brighton refused the offers and
they were sizable.
“The player, naturally upset, took some time to get over the disappointment but to his credit settled his differences with the
Seagulls and continued to produce outstanding performances, notwithstanding this extraordinary trouncing of the Gunners
on their own turf.”
The 21-year-old was also praised on Twitter, with Football Talent Scout saying back in August: “Moisés Caicedo’s market
value/asking price will be astronomical next summer. And he’ll be worth every penny of it. Machine Man. He’s 20 by the
way. Twenty years old.”
So, although United look set to miss out on the Arsenal bound Rice, Caicedo wouldn’t exactly be a disappointing alternative.
