Arsenal boss Arteta sent timely reminder as Gabriel forced to apologise in Brentford win
On Wednesday, in the third round of the Carabao Cup, Arsenal overcame Brentford 1-0.
Emile Smith Rowe, an unsung hero for Arsenal, reminded Mikel Arteta of his brilliance as the Gunners beat Brentford 1-0 to move to the Carabao Cup fourth round.
After Eddie Nketiah took advantage of a defensive blunder, Reiss Nelson handed the Gunners an early lead, and the squad eventually overcame a scare in the second half to move on to the next round.
Charles Sagoe Jr. received his debut after Arteta made some adjustments.
He is one of the talking points as Express Sport reviews their victory.
debut of Sagoe Jr.
Bukayo Saka’s injury prevented him from playing, thus Charles Sagoe Jr., who is also proficient on the left, started his first senior game for Arsenal on the right wing.
On what may be viewed as a strong debut, the 19-year-old occasionally came off as threatening and displayed some promising moments, giving Arteta enough to contemplate for the future.
A promising winger like Sagoe Jr. getting plenty of minutes against a full-strength Premier League team as strong as Brentford can only be a positive – especially if he is utilized once more on the south coast.
Saka may not travel to Bournemouth this weekend and Arteta does not have a natural right-winger at his disposal.
Smith Rowe passes the most recent exam.
After appearing as a substitute in the Champions League victory over PSV and having only played one minute of Premier League football so far this season, Smith Rowe was given another chance to shine in midfield.
He was given Martin Odegaard’s position as the team’s primary creator on his 100th Arsenal outing, and he stood out as one of the best players there.
He was adept at creating attacking opportunities for himself and his teammates through deft passes and direct, powerful dribbling.
He will feel that his performance has put him firmly back into Arteta’s thinking, similar to how Fabio Vieira has done in recent weeks.
Arteta gamble pays off
Arteta opted to rest stars such as Odegaard, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko despite Thomas Frank’s outfit putting out a strong side at home – certainly a gamble amid somewhat of an injury crisis as three of tonight’s starters began the north London derby.
But the team looked as capable as ever, controlling the majority of possession in what is a tricky away day against a Brentford team that Arsenal perhaps expected to be rotated more than it was – but he will be thrilled that a team consisting mainly of fringe players were able to get the win.
Havertz’ worrying form
Havertz was left out of the starting line-up for the last two league games, having struggled to live up to his price tag in the opening few months of his Gunners’ career.
He hasn’t scored in his last 17 games and had an opportunity to break that duck in the first half, having been given an opportunity to smash across goal but his tame effort was blocked.
The German looks completely devoid of confidence after being unable to take another chance at getting off the mark, with more than a few attacking moments coming to an end at the hands of the former Chelsea star.
He needs that first goal desperately to kickstart his career in north London.
Forced to apologize to the center-back for Arsenal Just before halftime, Gabriel gave the Brentford faithful quite a scare. He then made an attempt to punt the ball back onto the field after leading an attack for the home team out for a goal kick.
However, he unintentionally missed the boards enclosing the field and ended up startling some home supporters when they unexpectedly saw the ball shot in their direction.
He took care to wave and apologize even though the ball missed any of the spectators.
