Since coming to the Owls from Middlesbrough in 2021, Johnson has made 95 appearances and scored six goals.

He participated in 51 games in all competitions the previous campaign, scoring three goals as Wednesday won play-off

promotion to the Championship.

Friday, August 4, will mark the season opener for Wednesday, who are still without a manager after the abrupt departure of

promotion-winning manager Darren Moore.

Johnson told the club website: “It’s a great club and the season we had last year was justified with the work we put in. I’m

excited to be here back in the Championship.”

The fact that the majority of the team from last season is still together boosts our morale and offers us a foundation on which

to develop.

Following the unexpected departure of Darren Moore, the Owls are searching for a new manager and are now interviewing

potential candidates.

After promotion, Championship football is on the schedule for Wednesday, thus the club is anxious to find the best new

manager.

Gerrard, a former manager of Rangers and Aston Villa, is currently unemployed and has been connected to various teams.

However, Gerrard has never at any point been considered for the position at Hillsborough.

The former captain of England won’t take over as manager of Sheffield Wednesday, and it’s unclear where he’ll take over next.

The current favorite to lead Hillsborough is Dean Smith, while Nathan Jones, the former manager of Southampton, is also a contender.

One of the managers who was interviewed for the position was Slaven Bilic.
