Last Friday, I reported for Sky on Derby County’s 4-0 victory over Portsmouth, and I thought they were outstanding There was some anxiety over Pompey’s arrival following the Leeds and Burnley games, but Derby managed it quite effectively.
During the post-match interview with Paul Warne on Sky, I made an effort to hint that, as a manager, you are sometimes evaluated based on performances against teams like Portsmouth rather than Leeds and Burnley.
They emerged from League One by winning the championship, but it also demonstrated to me that Derby is making fantastic progress because they appear to be a little bit ahead of Portsmouth.
Derby was clearly pleased with the outcome and the performance, but considering his play this season, it was disappointing to see Eiran Cashin suffer a hamstring injury.
Although I have seen tidbits of him over the past few years, I didn’t see much of him last season. He was obviously connected to Brighton, and I’ve talked to some people about why Premier League teams are interested in him.
It’s not only his defence; it’s also his passing, ball skills, and game reading. He’s one of those guys that occasionally makes me question if he has the extra mobility needed to compete in the Premier League.
However, he always reads the game so well when I watch him. I believe he’s much faster than you might think in those spots because he always seems to get it there and make that last-ditch tackle.
Despite the fact that I haven’t seen him every day, he has made great development. It’s fantastic for Derby to have a young player playing at his level, and he seems like a really good character. Derby
