The Atlanta Braves needed a bounce back start from Charlie Morton Saturday night where he allowed two runs over six innings in a 5-2 win over the Texas Rangers. The Braves have now won six-straight games and are 14-5 on the season.
Morton tossed 5 2⁄3 shutout innings in his season debut against the White Sox, but it had been a struggled since. In his next two starts combined, he allowed 10 earned runs in 11 1⁄3 innings while issuing six walks with 12 strikeouts. Morton only struck out four in Saturday’s win, but he only walked two and settled in after the Rangers scored both of their runs in the second inning.
Offensively, Travis d’Arnaud continued his power surge with another home run, giving him four in the series after his three-homer game Friday night. Michael Harris had three hits and drove in a run from the second spot in the order.
Reynaldo López is one of seven former relievers that has gotten off to a good start after jointing the starting rotation.
The Braves lost Sean Murphy early in the season, but Chadwick Tromp has stepped in and helped fill the void.
Mets will be without catcher Francisco Alvarez for an undetermined amount of time after he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left thumb. Alvarez injured the thumb on a slide into second base Friday night.
The Rangers lost again to the Braves Saturday night but there is some good news. Max Scherzer is set to begin a rehab assignment next week. Scherzer, who underwent back surgery during the offseason, threw live BP on Friday night and then tossed 40 more pitches in two simulated innings afterwards.
Twins right-hander Daniel Duarte will undergo surgery on his pitching elbow and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. Duarte missed most of the 2022 season with inflammation in his elbow. He made two appearances with the Twins before going on the injured list April 4.
The Miami Marlins placed left-hander A.J. Puk on the 15-day injured list due to fatigue in his throwing shoulder. Puk has a 9.22 ERA and 17 walks in just 13 2⁄3 innings across four starts this season. Former Brave Munoz was recalled to take Puk’s spot on the active roster.

Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas exited Saturday’s game early and is headed for tests after feeling some discomfort in his ribs.
One day after opting out of his minor league deal with the Dodgers, lefty Drew Pomeranz re-signed with the club on a minor league deal. He will return to Triple A and will continue his comeback attempt.
First baseman jared Walsh was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers Saturday to clear a roster spot for Nathaniel Lowe. Walsh originally signed a minor league deal with the club, but earned his way onto the Opening Day roster after Lowe was sidelined with an oblique strain.
The Dodgers placed right-hander Kyle Hurt on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Nick Ramirez was recalled to take Hurt’s spot on the active roster.
