The Liverpool midfielder has been in incredible form for his country.
Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool has been in superb form for his country over the last nine months, and his level of performance has been on par with the best in Europe.
Szoboszlai, 22, has been in excellent form for his club this season since joining from RB Leipzig in the summer, but he has also led his team to the European Championships in Germany next summer as captain.
Hungary and Serbia qualified as group winners, and the Liverpool midfielder was in fine form throughout the campaign, scoring four goals in total, a figure only surpassed by Aleksandr Mitrovic.
Looking at the Team of the Qualifying Round from WhoScored, who posted their best XI from the group stages, Szobozlai ranks as the third highest player in terms of average rating since March.
Only two players have a higher average score per game than him: Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku (8.22), and Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes (8.31).
The most impressive aspect is that Szoboszlai has a higher figure than both Harry Kane (7.77) and Mbappe (8.09), demonstrating the levels he’s reached over the last nine months.
He has four goals and three assists in eight Euro group games, but his all-around play has been outstanding. He has an impressive 2.9 key passes per 90, 3.1 dribbles, was fouled 3.1 times, has 3.8 long balls, and has an 87% pass success rate.
Mike Maignan (7.29) leads the team. Denzel Dumfries (7.43 points) 7.43 Danilo Pereira Pavlovi Strahinja (7.35) 7.90 Joao Cancelo 8.31 Fernandes 8.16 Szoboszlai (8.13) Jeremy Doku Mbappe (8.09 points) Lukaku (8.22), Kane (7.77).
It’s a team full of big names, and Szoboszlai should be proud of his efforts in getting his team to the Euros next summer. And it’s clear he’s a fan favorite, as he was seen celebrating with the fans after the win over Montenegro by taking a shot in the stands.
So far, he has been a consistent performer at club level; his willingness to cover ground and work extremely hard means he will always be in the ‘7/10 player every week’ category, but he also possesses an innate quality on the ball.
Already a key player at Liverpool, he will be crucial to the club’s success this season, and he will be hoping that a trophy-laden campaign will catapult him into replicating that form for his country when the Euros arrive next summer.
