Former Liverpool flop is competing with Kylian Mbappe after stunning career turnaround as both are willing to join the club

During his time in England, the former Liverpool forward found it difficult to make an impression.

A year after leaving Anfield, former Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino has turned his career around in Monaco, where he has settled well.

The 28-year-old Minamino was acquired for £7.25 million in January 2020 from RB Salzburg, but he was never able to establish himself in the starting lineup. But with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino forming an offensive front line for the most of Klopp’s tenure at the club, it was nearly impossible to do so.

Though he was limited to playing in the squad rotation, the Japanese international did have his moments. However, a lack of opportunities and 14 goals in 55 appearances eventually led him to look for a move abroad. As a result, he signed a £15.4 million agreement to join Monaco, which was a wise business decision for the team.

Since then, Minamino has found his feet in Ligue 1. Last season was a transition period for him as he only started 10 games in the league. However, this year he has hit the ground running and has produced five goals and four assists in 13 games and those numbers are up there with the very best in the league.

That means he sits behind only Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe for goal contributions this season. Granted, Mbappe is far out and ahead with 15 goals and two assists, but Minamino is second for producing and contributing to goals.
