breaking news: Sheffield Wednesday are in contact with 59-year-old Italian coach.

According to a recent report from the Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web, Sheffield Wednesday have spoken with Italian

coach Giuseppe Iachini.

Iachini, 59, is said to have been in touch with Sheffield Wednesday after Italian club Sampdoria decided to hire Andre Pirlo

rather than Iachini.

Iachini played in over 400 games in his playing career and has been in management for 22 years. He has held managerial

positions with clubs including Chievo, Brescia, Palermo, Udinese, Fiorentina, and more. His most recent tenure was with

Parma in the 2021/22 season.

Former Sheffield Wednesday player Carlton Palmer responded to the news that Iachini was being considered for the

Hillsborough position by speaking to Football League World as follows:

“Giuseppe Iachini has been mentioned as a potential new head coach for Sheffield Wednesday.

“In my opinion, having a manager in the Championship who has never managed in this level is a huge risk.

“He’s only ever managed in Italy, and his track record isn’t great, so I think this is just idle talk and rumors,” the speaker said.

Giuseppe Iachini, who is he?

Iachini started playing football in 1981 and has been a part of Italian football ever since. Although he has come to be

associated with being a temporary appointment, he is a well-known figure in the country and is frequently mentioned in

connection with the most recent job opportunities in the country.

His longest tenure as a club manager was three years, from 2004 to 2007, with the Italian team Piacenza. Since then, Iachini

has only had one job that lasted longer than two years, although in the four years that followed, he managed to get

Sampdoria, Chievo, and Brescia promoted from Serie B to Italy’s top division.

Iachini is a manager who frequently serves as an interim replacement after having previously managed Brescia, Palermo,

and Fiorentina.

Perhaps the most well-known club he has managed is Fiorentina. Iachini oversaw 41 games while he was in command of the

club between 2019 and 2020, and then again for a brief while in 2021. Iachini won 14 of those games.

Iachini won the Panchina d’Argento, an honor given to the best manager in Italy for the year, in 2008 after leading Chievo to the Serie B championship.

Iachini thus has plenty of experience. But his complete lack of English football experience is maybe the most important

factor for Wednesday to take into account in this situation.

However, according to Tutto Mercato Web’s source, Iachini is currently merely a contender and not the front-runner.
