Update news: Liverpool’s fitness update comes as Jurgen Klopp faces a selection dilemma for Manchester City.

Andy Robertson has been out of the Liverpool lineup since October.

Andy Robertson has admitted that he is unsure when he will be available for selection by Liverpool.

After suffering an injury while on Scotland duty, the left-back underwent shoulder surgery last month. The Reds are not rushing Robertson back into action, with Jurgen Klopp previously stating that he would return in the new year.

On Sunday evening, the 29-year-old traveled to Hampden Park to watch Scotland’s 3-3 draw with Norway. Speaking to Viaplay Sports ahead of the game, Robertson confirmed that his surgery was successful, but he refused to specify when he will return.

“Yeah, getting there, slowly but surely,” he said. The surgery was a success, and there were no complications as a result of it.

“Things are looking up so far. I’m about three weeks out from my surgery, so everything is going well. Just take it week by week, bit by bit.

“Everything has gone well up to this point, and hopefully that will continue, and hopefully I’ll be back on the grass before we know it.” I haven’t planned that far ahead [in terms of a possible return date]. I’m just trying to take it one week at a time.

“I’m trying not to get frustrated because I’m not the best [when] I’m injured.” Every week, I try to focus on small victories. I don’t want to plan a game and then fail to complete it or return before the deadline. I’m just taking it slowly but steadily for the time being, and when that time comes, I’ll try to get on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Liverpool travel to Manchester City this Saturday (12.30 GMT) for a Premier League top-of-the-table clash. With Robertson out again, Jurgen Klopp must decide whether to use Kostas Tsimikas or Joe Gomez on the left side of defense.

Tsimikas is the preferred option, but his form has been inconsistent at times this season, and he is more effective offensively than defensively. Meanwhile, Gomez is primarily a center-back but would add solidity against a potent City attack. In the 1-1 draw at Luton Town, he played the role.
