Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool situation will “be more complicated” in the summer
Fabrizio Romano reports that while there is zero chance Mohamed Salah will leave in the January transfer window, the situation will be more complicated in the summer.
It should come as no surprise that Liverpool will not sell Salah in January.
That said, the summer transfer window will be the second-last chance to recoup a fee for his services.
Salah will be out of contract in June 2025 and so his future continues to be the subject of speculation.
David Ornstein recently suggested that the Egyptian’s future may still lie at Liverpool but was unable to provide any further detail.
Now, Fabrizio Romano reports on what the future holds for Liverpool and Salah.
The Italian said on Kick Streaming: “In January I see him staying, absolutely. I see him staying, I see Mo Salah being a part of the Liverpool project.
“Absolutely, nothing to mention on that. I don’t think anything can happen in the January transfer window.
“At the moment the message from Liverpool is the same as we had in the summer, Liverpool want to count on Mo Salah, he’s
an absolutely crucial player for them.
“Remember that when they received important approaches from Mo Salah in the summer, in the final days of the European transfer market Saudi offered a package worth around £150m, an incredible amount of money for Mo Salah, and in that case, Liverpool said no, so I don’t see them selling the player in the middle of the season, a very important season for Liverpool.
“They are still there fighting to win the Premier League, doing very well in the Europa League, so it’s a positive season for Liverpool. I don’t see them ruining it by selling Mo Salah in January. In the summer we will see, but in January I think it will be really complicated.”

Liverpool given injury boost over “sensational” £150k-p/w player at Anfield
The Reds have received some positive news regarding the fitness of one of their senior squad members.
Liverpool have been handed a boost after learning that one of their first-team stars could return from injury during next weekend’s Premier League game vs Manchester City.
Liverpool injury news
The Reds have Andrew Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Conor Bradley all out on the sidelines with their respective long-term problems, but the club have received some more positive news regarding the fitness of a few in the short term.
According to reports, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate are expected to stage their comeback for the highly anticipated encounter against Pep Guardiola’s side, which is great for the defensive backline, while Jurgen Klopp is also set to have his options bolstered in the middle.
The Merseyside outfit secured the services of central midfielder Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich over the summer, and it’s fair to say that he has shown plenty of promising signs during his 12 appearances to date (Transfermarkt – Gravenberch statistics), but he’s recently been absent.
The Netherlands international has missed the last two games against Toulouse in the Europa League and Brentford in the top flight due to a niggling knee injury, but if the following update is to be believed, the 21-year-old may be back at his manager’s disposal next weekend.
Ryan Gravenberch set to be available
According to This Is Anfield, Gravenberch may return from injury for Saturday’s showdown at the Etihad Stadium, and he also could be joined by Curtis Jones.
“Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate were surprise absentees from the squad to face Brentford, with the former also being forced to drop out of international duty with France. But This Is Anfield understands both men were sidelined only by minor issues that it is expected will have cleared for the visit to the Etihad Stadium.
“Sources also confirmed a similar prognosis for Ryan Gravenberch, after his run of four consecutive Premier League starts was ended by a knee niggle. But the Dutchman will face fresh midfield competition from Curtis Jones going into next weekend, with the young Scouser set to be available again after hamstring trouble.”
Gravenberch’s return will be a boost for Klopp
Whilst Gravenberch is naturally a central midfielder, he’s been stronger in the offensive aspects of his game since joining Liverpool, having posted four contributions (two goals and assists apiece) in 12 outings, so him being available once again will be a huge plus for Klopp.
Standing at 6 foot 2, the colossus also ranks in the 97th percentile for successful take-ons compared to positional peers in men’s big five leagues over the last year (FBRef – Gravenberch statistics), highlighting his desire to dribble past his marker and create chances for himself and his fellow teammates in the final third.
Furthermore, Anfield’s £150k-per-week earner (Liverpool salaries), is a versatile operator having been deployed in five different positions over the grass since the start of his career, including three in the centre of the park and two across the frontline.
Despite only being at the club for a short amount of time, Gravenberch has already been hailed for his “sensational” impact by journalist Josh Bunting, and there’s no doubt that he will only continue to make a positive impression when he does return to the field, which could well be next weekend.
Liverpool have submitted bid for £1.2m-p/w star who’d make Nunez unplayable
If reports are to be believed, the Reds could be in line to secure an incredible new addition.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp succeeded in rebuilding his squad last summer after the 2022/23 campaign brought little to sing home about, with years of illustrious success halted as the midfield withered and the cohesion dissipated.
While the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner have all been staples of this prosperous modern era on Merseyside, there was a clear waning in strength and the struggle to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League confirmed a miserable end to the term.
Klopp rebuilt the midfield over the summer and the aforementioned stars have all now been shipped on, but more work is needed to return the Anfield side to its former imperiousness.
The backline requires attention, with a left-sided defender of particular interest, while the continuing question mark over the head of Mohamed Salah’s future remains despite warding off lucrative attention from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad in the summer.
Out of contract in 2025, Liverpool will need to replace the 31-year-old one day, and while it’s unfathomable to even dream about, recent reports suggest that moves have been made to bring Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe to English shores.
Liverpool transfer news – Kylian Mbappe
According to Spanish outlet AS – via Paisley Gates – Liverpool have submitted an opening offer to sign Mbappe following Real Madrid’s apparent fears regarding the finances involved in bringing the France international to the Spanish capital.
Further, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are considering a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams on a free transfer next summer, with Vinicius Junior already performing brilliantly on the left wing.
While Liverpool’s chances of completing a deal are slim, not least because of the exorbitant wage demands that would come after the player departs Paris on a Bosnan in the summer, the Anfield chiefs will monitor the situation in case an opportunity does arise.
There have, however, also been recent claims from the Spanish publication regarding Real Madrid’s pursuit of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, and if such a deal was to be pulled off, the road to Manchester may be opened for the Parisien phenom – a daunting thought indeed.
Kylian Mbappe’s style of play
It’s unlikely that Liverpool would have submitted a concrete offer for the Les Bleus sensation, but that’s not to say that negotiations haven’t been made in some format to establish conversation.
Mbappe is one of world football’s finest players and has scored 227 goals and supplied 99 assists across 275 outings for PSG, having been praised as an “alien” by Poland international Piotr Zielinski for his incredible qualities.
