The Republic of Ireland defender is about to make his way back to the Premier League after Burnley and West Brom completed a transfer agreement.
Before joining his fellow Irish colleagues Josh Cullen and Micheal Obafemi at Turf Moor, the Dubliner is expected to have a medical assessment later today.
Burnley, led by Vincent Kompany, is actively looking to add players to their roster after being recently promoted to the Premier League after spending a season in the Championship. O’Shea has been mentioned as a player who can improve West Brom’s defense line because the club no longer receives parachute payments, making him one of their most valued assets.
The 24-year-old has made more than 100 appearances for the Baggies in a variety of tournaments, and even served as the teams captain.
Speaking earlier this year, Carlos Corberan, the West Brom manager, said he believed O’Shea could “thrive” in the Premier League.
“He has been amazing for me. I can’t think of a player for whom I have more kind comments than I do for him, he remarked. “Not only during games; he’s a player who never skipped a workout. He has the kind of ambition that, without a shadow of a doubt, will help him build an excellent career.
Since I joined the club, he has always competed at a single, excellent level in every game. In the football world, this is not a simple task. When you play several games in a row, it’s possible that you’ll lose focus or motivation or that exhaustion will overcome your level of drive and motivation.
But this hasn’t happened with him, in any case. He has the drive to compete, advance, pay attention, and become a better player, therefore I have no doubt that he will play football at the top level. He has done so before and will do so again.
O’Shea sustained a knee injury that kept him out of West Brom’s final nine Championship games of the previous season, but he recovered in time to play for the Republic of Ireland in their most recent Euro 2024 qualifiers. He contributed to Monday’s 3-0 win over Gibraltar and is seen as a crucial player on Stephen Kenny’s team.
