I’m not changing my mind’: Alan Shearer sends Liverpool honest Premier League title message

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool won’t be a title contender this year, according to Alan Shearer.

The all-time leading scorer in the Premier League told Match of the Day 2 that, defensively speaking, Liverpool leaves him ‘not sure’.

On Sunday, as Manchester City were beaten at Arsenal, just hours earlier, the Reds recorded a 2-2 draw against a Brighton side that shipped six goals the week before.

There is no question as to what the forward line generates. Again, everything the squad accomplished in the final third was driven by Mohammed Salah.

However, Liverpool has only managed to keep one clean sheet after eight Premier League games, which is just insufficient for a squad that aspires to contend for the top spot.

Although the midfield is beginning to settle, Gary Neville said that the defensive intelligence is lacking in the center of the park.

Liverpool’s Premier League title chances

“I’m not sure about them defensively, Liverpool,” said Shearer.

“I’m not changing my mind, I think it will be a two-horse race again – Arsenal and City. They might stay up there for a little while but I think by the end it will be Arsenal and City.”

Liverpool’s dissonance
Defensive lapses, red cards, or unfamiliar faces still getting used to each other are all examples. Liverpool does currently appear to be lacking in rhythm.

The offensive is clear to observe and capable of overwhelming any team; all the defense needs is consistency.

Fortunately, there are three points between fourth-placed Liverpool and the league leaders Tottenham, so there is still time for the squad to turn things around.

‘Absolutely stunned’ – Dermot Gallagher gives verdict on penalty decision in Liverpool draw at Brighton

Liverpool were awarded a penalty of their own but Brighton also felt Virgil van Dijk should have conceded one.

Dermot Gallagher, a former Premier League official, has backed Anthony Taylor’s choice not to give Brighton a penalty during their 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

The Seagulls were furious after Kaoru Mitoma’s goal-bound shot was deflected off Virgil van Dijk’s thigh and then struck the Dutchman’s left hand.

Taylor issued Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi a yellow card for going too far in his objections after a spot-kick was not awarded. De Zerbi was upset by the decision.

Speaking after the game, the Italian doubled down on his belief his side should have been awarded a penalty.

“In that situation, I think there was a clear penalty and I told the referee in a good way I think,” he said.

Of the view De Zerbi’s stance on the subject is wrong and that the correct on-field decision was made, Gallagher said on Sky Sports’ ‘Ref Watch’: “The evidence is there for everyone to see.

It clearly strikes his thigh, his arm is by his side, it bounces at a few feet and hits him, there’s no doubt about that, but you would be absolutely stunned if a penalty was given for that
