Paul Merson and Chris Sutton have made attempts to predict the outcome of Liverpool’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League
Both Paul Merson and Chris Sutton believe that Liverpool will bounce back from last week’s Premier League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur by beating Brighton & Hove Albion in an entertaining game this afternoon.
Liverpool had gone unbeaten in all competitions since April 1 until last Saturday.
They had the opportunity to extend that run and top the Premier League following Manchester City’s slip-up at Wolverhampton Wanderers, though hopes came crashing down as an incorrectly ruled out Luis Diaz goal led to defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Jurgen Klopp rallied his men to bounce back by beating Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League in midweek, although before the international break comes another tough away test in the form of fellow high flyers Brighton.
Liverpool were unable to defeat today’s opponents in three attempts last season, drawing at Anfield and losing twice at the AMEX in the league and FA Cup.

But putting the question of who will come out on top today to the pundits, the answer is unequivocally… the Reds.
Discussing the meeting in his weekly predictions for Sportskeeda, Merson started with statements about the match against Spurs that he would later echo in a heated debated with Mike Dean on Soccer Saturday.
“Currently, the rules in the Premier League effectively say that if someone makes a mistake, don’t correct it and get on with the game,” the Arsenal legend began.
“That’s not good enough – change the rule! Common sense is not as common as we think it is.
“If you break the rule during the game, no-one’s going to die. The referees could have stopped the game and said that they made a mistake.
Show it on your big screens and give the goal – not one Tottenham fan could’ve moaned about it. The goal was miles onside and it was obvious.”
He finally predicted Liverpool to win 3-1 at the AMEX, stating: “Brighton are one of those teams that are very dangerous when the pressure isn’t on them. They were thinking about a top-four place the other day and the pressure was on before they got absolutely slaughtered by Aston Villa. I’d be shocked if Brighton are able to beat this Liverpool team.
“Liverpool are a very good team – they’re better than what people think they are. They were bang unlucky last week, and it wasn’t only because of VAR. This will be an open football game with a lot of goals, but I don’t see how Brighton’s defence can live with Jurgen Klopp’s side. Liverpool have got more firepower than Aston Villa and should be able to beat Brighton.”
