Luton Town will have to wait to play their first Premier League home match this season – and FPL players have been scratching their heads as to why.
Premier League new boys Luton Town and Burnley kicked their campaigns off last weekend after rising up from the Championship together. Neither
side were able to take a positive result away from their opening games, with the Hatters falling to Brighton, and Vincent Kompany suffering a loss at
the hands of his old club Manchester City.
Burnley were dealt a 3-0 loss by Pep Guardiola’s champions, and just to twist the knife a little more, Anass Zaroury was sent off in the fourth minute
of injury time. Meanwhile, Luton were hit for four by Brighton, despite Carlton Morris netting a consolation penalty late on to open the club’s
Premier League portfolio.
But there is still a long way to go in the 2023/24 season and the league is guaranteed to throw out some serious curveballs between now and the end
of May. The two sides have plenty of time to shake off their losses but their match scheduled for Saturday is now longer going ahead and will instead
be played at a date later in the season.
Why is Luton Town vs Burnley postponed?
Before the season started, the Hatters requested that their first home fixture of the term be postponed as Kenilworth Road is still ‘undergoing a
programme of extensive ground improvements to be ready to host Premier League football.’ This includes a new stand being constructed in order to
meet broadcast and media requirements of England’s top flight.
fixture schedule within sufficient time to advise supporters and broadcasters of any changes in advance,” an official statement from the club read.
