Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate for midfield reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be demanding alternative midfield signings after Moises Caicedo reportedly made clear that he prefers a move
to Premier League rivals Chelsea. Knowing full well that the club can afford up to £110m due to their failed efforts to sign Caicedo from Brighton,
Klopp could choose to create a shortlist of expensive stars.
Express Sport looks at six possible Liverpool signings.
Khephren Thuram
Liverpool were widely linked with Nice star Thuram at the start of the summer. But pursuits of Caicedo and Romeo Lavia – who also seems set for
Chelsea – took precedence.
Thuram, a dynamic midfielder who shone in France last season, could now jump back to the top of Liverpool’s shortlist. A £35m price tag was
supposedly slapped on the Frenchman’s head several months ago.
Klopp will know the Anfield hierarchy can now afford such a fee, thanks to the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. He could ask those
above him to secure the signing of the 22-year-old.
Liverpool tried hard to get Tchouameni in the summer of 2022. However, the Frenchman had his heart set on Real Madrid, and the Premier League
side missed out on a potential £100m signing.
Tchouameni started just 24 La Liga matches last term and has been loosely linked with a move from the Bernabeu, especially in the wake of Jude
Bellingham’s £100m switch from Borussia Dortmund. Liverpool will be ready to pounce if the 23-year-old is made available.
Andre
A desire to sign a defensive midfielder has reportedly seen Liverpool eye Brazilian starlet Andre. According to the Daily Mail, a £21m bid is being
prepared for the 22-year-old, who has already played a huge amount of senior football.
Andre has starred 144 times for Fluminense and made his debut for Brazil during the summer international break. Klopp would be getting a young
but experienced player if Liverpool complete a deal.
Gavi
Barcelona finally registered the contract of teenage starlet Gavi last month. The Spanish giants had been keen to get the 19-year-old tied down to a
new long-term deal, having risked the La Masia graduate from leaving as a free agent in 12 months’ time.
But a need to raise funds could still see Barca part ways with one of their best talents, especially for a huge fee. Klopp knows Liverpool can afford up
to £110m.
Cheick Doucoure
Mali international Doucoure was one of the rare bright sparks in a poor half-season for Crystal Palace under Patrick Vieira last season. The Eagles
beat some top six sides to the signing of the 23-year-old last summer, agreeing an £18m fee.
Doucoure won Palace’s Player of the Year award at the end of his first season in English football, continuing to shine after Roy Hodgson’s
reappointment in March. Liverpool have been linked with Doucoure, believing he could be an alternative to Caicedo.
Joshua Kimmich
German publication Kicker reported last month that Bayern could be willing to listen to offers for Germany international Kimmich. After spending
£100m on Harry Kane, the Bundesliga side could need to balance their books with a major outgoing.
Liverpool should have been put on red alert by the news that Kimmich might be available. The 28-year-old would be the perfect replacement for
Fabinho.
