JUST IN: Auburn football assistant Alabama 5-star Decommit flip to Mississippi

Auburn offensive coordinator Derrick Nix and former Alabama basketball star Mo Williams have been selected as part of the eight-member Class of 2025 for the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, as announced on Tuesday.

Nix, originally from Atalla and in his first year with Auburn, excelled as a running back at Southern Miss from 1998 to 2002. He achieved three seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards, finishing his career with 3,584 yards and 30 touchdowns, despite missing one entire season and part of another due to a kidney condition.

Williams, who hails from Mississippi, was named SEC Freshman of the Year at Alabama in 2002. He went on to have a 13-year NBA career and coached for two seasons at Alabama State before becoming the head coach at Jackson State in 2022.

Another inductee with connections to Alabama is Mike Justice, a renowned high school football coach in Mississippi. Over 29 seasons, he recorded 294 wins and won four state championships in Mississippi, in addition to coaching for five seasons at Oxford and Anniston high schools in Alabama.

The Class of 2025 also features former Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry, former Mississippi State and Buffalo Bills defensive back Steve Freeman (now an NFL official), former Ole Miss running back Dexter McCluster, longtime basketball coach Steve Rives, and Robbie Webb, recognized as the “Godfather of Mississippi Golf.” The induction ceremony is scheduled for August 2 in Jackson.
