Jamie Carragher names the Liverpool midfielder who was ‘poor’ vs Manchester United at Anfield
Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on the performance of Dominik Szoboszlai for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United at Anfield.
The former Liverpool defender was not at all impressed by the display produced by Szoboszlai in the Premier League game.
So, what has Jamie Carragher said about Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai? Let’s take a look.
Criticism of Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai vs Manchester United
Well, Liverpool took on Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.
Dominik Szoboszlai started the match for Liverpool. The Hungary international midfielder has established himself as a key player for the Reds this season, and I was not surprised at all to see him start in midfield.
Szoboszlai started on the right of a midfield-three in a 4-3-3 formation. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp decided to take him off in the 61st minute.
During his time on the pitch at Anfield on Sunday, the 23-year-old took one shot which was not target, had a pass accuracy of 76.3%, took 53 touches, attempted one dribble, and made two tackles, one interception, and put in five crosses.

“One thing I would say is that he has got great running power that could cause them problems, but that is not going to happen now.”
Dominik Szoboszlai is a big player for Liverpool
While Dominik Szoboszlai did not have the best of matches for Liverpool on Sunday, I have no doubt that he is a huge player for the Reds.
The 23-year-old has been superb for Liverpool since his move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023.
The young midfielder has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water. The Hungary international is very powerful with his shots, can run a lot, and is very dynamic in his approach to the game.
True, Szoboszlai struggled to hold his own against United and failed to impose himself on the match, but just because he was poor against the Red Devils does not mean that he is a bad player. Far from it.

Roy Keane praises Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay vs Liverpool
Well, Manchester United have played out a goalless draw with Liverpool away from home at Anfield in the Premier League.
Scott McTominay was the captain for the Red Devils. The Scotland international started in the centre of a three-man attacking midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
McTominay won the toss and told Liverpool to attack the Kop in the first half. That was very clever from the midfielder, and United legend Roy Keane was impressed.
The midfielder was not particularly great, but he did his job well. McTominay always worked hard and wore the captain’s armband with pride.

Keane said about McTominay on Sky Sports Premier League (6:40 pm, December 17, 2023): “He has done well. He made a good start by winning the toss.
“I think that was a very good move, very smart of him. He has had his critics, and the whole team have had their critics, but we have to give them credit today.”
Scott McTominay emerging as a genuine star for Manchester United
Scott McTominay was strongly linked with moves away from Manchester United in the summer of 2023.
There did not appear to be a future for McTominay under manager Erik ten Hag at United, but things have changed now.
Ten Has has completely changed his mind about the Scotland international. The 27-year-old has now established himself as one of the most important players in the United midfield.
McTominay is not a flashy player. He is a very honest and hard-working footballer who always gives his all.
I do not think that the Scotland international is world class or will ever become one, but for United right now, he is a very important player. Fans can always expect them to give his all whenever he is on the pitch.
