24-YEAR OLD STAR SET FOR MEDICALS AS CLUB MISS OUT ON £20M DEAL, FARKE EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT

Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Tyler Adams from Leeds United are almost officially over.

The Magpies have been linked with making a move for the 24-year-old, with Toon scouts impressed with what they saw from Adams when he played at St James’

Park last season.

He truly was excellent that day, and it looked like that performance might earn him a move to Tyneside. He fuelled speculation further when he admitted that

Newcastle was his favourite place to visit during his debut season with Leeds.

There was some hope that he could go on to call St James’ Park home due to his relatively reasonable £20million relegation release clause, but it now looks like he is

merely going to be a visitor once again.

That is because Chelsea have swooped in, and he is now set to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Chelsea close in on Tyler Adams deal

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea have decided to activate Adams’ £20million release clause. They state that a deal is now expected to be finalised, with the USA

international due to have a medical with the Blues today (Thursday).

It is quite surprising to see Chelsea make a move, as he was hardly viewed as a captivating signing when Newcastle were first linked.

But he will add energy and dynamism to Pochettino’s midfield, for a relatively cheap fee in today’s market. Considering the prices that some players are going for,

getting someone as good as Adams for £20million has to be considered good business.

That is why he was an intriguing option for Newcastle, but talk of a move really died down once Sandro Tonali arrived on Tyneside.

While there was speculation that another midfielder could arrive at St James’ Park, that is yet to happen. Instead, Eddie Howe is focussing on defensive

reinforcements.

That has allowed Chelsea to swoop in, and it will be interesting to see how well he does in a blue shirt.
