Ethan Ampadu is poised to sign for Leeds United despite interest from a number of other English clubs.
That is according to 90Min, who claim that Leeds are finalising a deal to bring Ampadu to Elland Road.
This comes after the London Evening Standard reported on Monday that Ampadu was heading for a medical with Leeds.
The Whites have agreed to pay £7million rising to £10million with add-ons, bringing Ampadu’s time at Chelsea to an end.
90Min claim that Leeds have managed to beat three Premier League clubs to Ampadu’s signature with Sheffield United,
Burnley and Fulham all keen.
Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City were interested too but Leeds have won the race.
Sheffield United wanted Ethan Ampadu return
It’s particularly interesting that Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United were so keen to land Ampadu.
The Welsh international spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Bramall Lane as Chris Wilder celebrated signing an ‘outstanding’ talent.
Ampadu made 25 Premier League appearances but couldn’t stop the Blades from suffering relegation.
That season sadly started a terrible run for the 22-year-old; he has now been relegated in each of the last three seasons
having been on loan with Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia.
Current Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom was in the coaching setup at Sheffield United during Ampadu’s time there and
even took charge after Wilder’s exit.
Heckingbottom – formerly of Leeds – seemingly wanted to give Ampadu a return to Bramall Lane but has lost out to Leeds
despite being in the Premier League.
That will feel like a coup for Leeds, who will be hoping to see Ampadu finally live up to his potential after four seasons out on
loan away from Chelsea.

LEEDS UNITED SHOW INTEREST IN SIGNING 27-YEAR-OLD RANGERS PLAYER
Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara seems to be emerging as Leeds United target this summer.
That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who claim that Leeds have been ‘assessing’ a move to sign Kamara.
It’s suggested that Leeds have been looking into signing Kamara in recent weeks to bolster their midfield options.
Last Word on Sports even go as far as saying that Kamara has now agreed personal terms to join Leeds.
That would suggest that Leeds are moving forward with a pursuit of Kamara in a potential return to English football for the
Finland International.
Glen Kamara should leave Rangers this summer
Kamara came up in the Arsenal ranks having been signed from Southend United as a teenager.
First-team chances weren’t forthcoming at Arsenal though and he left for Dundee in 2017, impressing enough to land a
January 2019 move to Rangers.
Kamara has racked up nearly 200 appearances for Rangers, helping them win a league title and reach a Europa League final
along the way.
This feels like the right time to go though with Kamara not exactly a key player under Michael Beale towards the end of last
season.
Rangers seem to be going in a different direction in midfield having already signed Nicolas Raskin in January and Kieran
Dowell this summer.
Add in the expected arrival of Jose Cifuentes and Kamara risks being stuck on the Rangers bench moving forward.
Heading to Leeds would give Kamara a much-needed fresh start and allow him to play a part in a promotion push next
season.
Leeds United need midfield additions
Kamara would also help Leeds solve a problem area.
Marc Roca has joined Real Betis on loan whilst Weston McKennie won’t be returning after a disappointing loan spell.
Tyler Adams could receive Premier League interest and Adam Forshaw was released this summer.
Forshaw could yet return to Leeds but the Whites need to beef up their midfield options this summer.
Leeds are set to snap up Chelsea talent Ethan Ampadu, most likely with the idea of playing in as a holding midfielder.
Kamara could be viewed as Ampadu’s partner in midfield, offering ball-carrying abilities whilst Ampadu protects the defence
in a new-look Leeds engine room.
