Romeo Lavia ’embarrassing’ talks explained as Liverpool given fresh transfer hope
It was third-time unlucky for Liverpool when they saw their latest bid for Romeo Lavia rejected by Southampton.
The Reds’ latest offer was worth an overall £46m, following on from initial bids of £34m plus £4m in add-ons, and an overall £42m package. All three remained
short of the Saints’ £50m asking price. While negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, it has become an unwanted drawn-out transfer saga.
After all, Liverpool remain without a senior holding midfielder, following the unexpected departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia. With the
start of the Reds’ Premier League season just four days away, the dragged out nature of negotiations is a hot topic.
“This is embarg,” club legend Jamie Carragher fumed on Twitter following his old side’s latest rejected offer. “Liverpool for years now have got deals done
quickly with no fuss.

Jurgen Klopp hints at Liverpool plan as Romeo Lavia 48-hour transfer ‘deadline’ emerges
Liverpool face a race against the clock if they wish to sign Romeo Lavia before the start of the season and then hand the Belgian an immediate debut.
The Reds, who open their campaign away at Chelsea on Sunday 13 August, have seen three bids rejected by Southampton for the 19-year-old so far. The latest was
snubbed on Monday, totalling an overall package of £46m, as the Saints continue to hold out for their £50m asking price.
Jurgen Klopp has already added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to his midfield ranks this summer as part of a long-awaited engine-room revamp, but
remains without a senior holding midfielder following the unexpected exits of both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia. Consequently, their pursuit of
Lavia has become more pressing, with the teenager having already been identified as a long-term replacement for their now departed Brazilian.
Lavia was an unused substitute for Southampton’s Championship opener away at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, while he was left out of the Saints’ matchday
squad entirely for their shock League Cup first round defeat to Gillingham.

‘REAL ATHLETE’ TIPPED TO SIGN FOR LIVERPOOL AND ‘THRIVE IN JURGEN KLOPP’S SYSTEM’
Kevin Hatchard has backed Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia to ’thrive’ in Jurgen Klopp’s system at Liverpool.
The European football expert added that there is ‘a little bit’ of a surprise at Romeo Lavia’s rise, after he came through the ranks at Belgium’s famous academy of Anderlecht, as he told Transfer Talk on Sky Sports.
After letting Fabinho and Jordan Henderson move to Saudi Arabia, Liverpool still haven’t brought in replacements for those players.
They are trying to knock on Southampton’s door with bid after bid, they they are being turned away, which has frustrated Jamie Carragher.
It does seem as though the 19-year-old will leave because he is yet to feature for the Saints this season.
Either way, Hatchard is backing the ‘real athlete’ to ‘blossom’ at Anfield.
“A little bit (surprised by Lavia’s rise),” said Hatchard. “I think the feeling at Anderlecht was that there was potential there and there was a potential star.
“I think what you get with him is a real athlete. You can get somebody that can cover the ground. Read the game. Break up play. But there are a lot of edges to
smooth with him.
“I think there is a lot of work for a coach to do. But if he has that raw material in the first place, then that’s why a lot of coaches are looking at him thinking ‘if I can
just get him in the building’, so somebody like Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
“If he can teach him what to do and thrive in Liverpool’s system, then that’s somebody that can blossom at Anfield.”
Just put the money down, Liverpool
There are suggestions that Southampton are close to selling their captain James Ward-Prowse to West Ham United, a fee of £30 million has been mooted.
Then there is TIno Livramento, he has made his move to Newcastle United, with Lavia responding to that transfer call.
The Saints are selling, if the price is right, so Liverpool need to swallow their pride, put the money down and add some positive nature to their camp ahead of the
new Premier League season starting.
